Fire truck damaged on 9/11 on display at Fort Knox

FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) — A fire truck damaged during the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2011, at the Pentagon is going on permanent display at the Gen. George S. Patton Museum and Center of Leadership at Fort Knox.

The explosion from the commercial jetliner that struck the Pentagon melted a section of the truck — Foam 161 — and sent the three firefighters manning the vehicle scrambling for safety, then to help people that day.

Patton Museum Curator Nathan Jones says the truck will be part of a display highlighting leadership issues that arose from the attacks.

The three firefighters on Tuesday saw the truck they worked on for the first time since the terrorist attacks.

Mark Skipper says the men have formed a "special bond" over the last 12 years.
