(Clarkson, KY) Just after 7 this morning, a passenger vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and crashed head on into a Grayson County School Bus en route to Clarkson Elementary School. The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 88 and Nelson Rd causing traffic congestion for a couple of hours. A total of 52 students were onboard bus number 1194. 48 of the students were loaded on another bus, continuing to their destination.
5 patients were transported from the scene by Grayson County EMS to the Twin Lakes ER including the driver of the car and 4 students. At Mid-day, hospital spokesperson Bill Oldham said the driver and students initially transported were listed with non serious injuries and those patients, along with 7 others that had arrived at the ER by other means had either been or were in the process of being treated and released. Just before 1pm, Oldham said an additional two students involved in the accident had arrived in the ER by private means. Those injuries were said to be minor and expectations were that they would also be treated and released. Throughout the course of the afternoon, that brought the total treated 14 total patients.
Assistant School Superintendent Doug Robinson said bus drivers are trained to handle any number of emergency situations and offered high praise for the actions taken today. There has been no reported word on what caused the vehicle to cross the center line and no official release from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office on the identity of the driver.
