Beckham Kersey, age 89, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (October 13, 2013) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, KY.
He was born on August 27, 1924 in Edmonson County, KY, the son of the late Thomas Lee and Maud Harrell Kersey.
He was a farmer, who loved pitching horseshoes. He ran the Grayson County Fair Horseshoe Contest for twenty years. He also enjoyed hunting. He married the love of his life, Gerene Edwards Kersey on March 22, 1947. He was a member of the Little Clifty Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gerene Edwards Kersey; one son, Jerry Kersey and his wife Wanda, of Leitchfield; two daughters, Pam Bennett and her husband, Vernon of Richmond, and Kathy Montgomery of Lexington; six grandchildren, Lori Powell, Jerry Kersey, Jr., Jami and Thomas Johnson, Jeana Gilles, and Daniel Montgomery; seven great-grandchildren, Abigale and Caleb Powell, Isabel and Claire Kersey, Hessi, Addi, and Beckham Johnson.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, Herman and Maggie Pryor; three brothers, Berthel, Henry, and Everett Kersey; and three sisters, Vogel Glass, Truly McKinny, and Addie Harper.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (October 16, 2013) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Chester Shartzer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Little Clifty Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
