The GCHS HOSA Medical Reserve Corps brought this larger-than-life inflatable colon to students and staff as part of a project to increase awareness of a deadly but often curable disease. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death, affecting both men and women. Anyone over the age of 50 should get regular checks, since 9 out of 10 colon cancers may be prevented or cured with consistent screenings. Health Sciences teacher Donna Priest spoke about colon health and what students would see in the inflatable. With each step, students could see a different stage of the colon from completely health through each phase of deterioration.
