Plodding storm moves out of US at last

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — After days of bringing snow and ice to half the country, a wintry storm has at last made its way out of New England.

The storm that covered parts of North Texas in ice over the weekend and dumped snow on the Mid-Atlantic region caused messy travel conditions and government closures on the Eastern seaboard Tuesday.

Parts of New England saw up to 3 inches of snow, while Philadelphia got 2 inches a couple days after a surprise 8-inch snowfall. Early-morning snowfall in Washington prompted the federal government to tell non-emergency employees to stay home even if the storm's last hurrah was less fierce than had been feared.

Forecasters say, however, more wintry weather could be on the way for the region this weekend.
