Tuesday to bring 'warming' into teens for Ky.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Brutally cold air gripped Kentucky early Tuesday for a second day, but forecasters predicted a slight warming trend in coming daylight hours with temperatures expected to rise into the teens or higher.

The dangerous blast of polar air surged out of the Midwest into the South and East on Monday, closing schools and day care centers around the region, grounding flights and forcing people to bundle up against the dangers of frostbite.

Temperatures dropped into the low single digits Monday around Kentucky, and wind chill readings plummeted to 22 below zero in Louisville, 20 below in Lexington, 15 below in Jackson in eastern Kentucky and 14 below in Paducah in the west.

More of the same bitter cold pushed people into shelters overnight.
