Rolling road blocks on WK Parkway today and tomorrow
Todd Murphy, Public Information Officer for the Kentucky Transportation Department, has issued the following release concerning “rolling road blocks” on the Western Kentucky Parkway today and tomorrow:
Scott & Murphy, Inc., the contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, plans rolling road blocks on the Western Kentucky Parkway in Ohio County today and tomorrow.
These rolling road blocks during daylight hours along the WK Pkwy near the 82 mile marker are to facilitate demolition of the old KY Hwy 505 Overpass.
Today the rolling road blocks will be for eastbound traffic. On Thursday, rolling road blocks will be for both eastbound and westbound traffic to allow demolition of the center pier.
From time to time police assisting with the project will slow traffic several miles out from the construction site. This will create a gap in traffic to allow the contractor to remove a portion of the old bridge structure. This process will be repeated several times during the day as needed.
Motorists who regularly travel this section of the Western Kentucky Parkway between the Exit 77 Natcher Parkway interchange, and Exit 94 Caneyville interchange should be aware of these planned rolling road blocks and use appropriate caution.
As a reminder, KY Hwy 505/Baizetown-Windy Hill Road is closed in Ohio County to allow demolition of the existing overpass and construction of a new overpass at the site.
The overpass, at KY Hwy 505 mile point 6.487, was struck and severely damaged by an unknown vehicle traveling the WK Parkway westbound in November of 2012.
This demolition and construction work on the KY Hwy 505 overpass will also require lane restrictions on the Western Kentucky Parkway at mile point 82.112 in Ohio County.
