Council asks judge to reconsider ruling on mayor

LANCASTER, Ky. (AP) — The reinstatement of a central Kentucky mayor has been put on hold until a judge reconsiders his decision in the case.

The City Council in Lancaster voted 6-0 in November to remove Mayor Barbara Powers. She fought the decision and Garrard Circuit Judge Hunter Daugherty ruled last week that she should be reinstated because the City Council lacked evidence of misconduct to justify her removal.

The Advocate-Messenger (http://bit.ly/1klMkZD) reports an attorney for the city sent a letter Wednesday to the judge asking him to reconsider the decision.

Attorney Hadden Dean says Powers can't resume office until Daugherty issues a ruling on the council's request. After that, both sides have 30 dates to decide whether to appeal.
