One arrested for car break-ins, two for vandalism

On March 11, the Leitchfield Police Department received a complaint of a suspicious subject who was going through parked vehicles at an apartment complex on Mill Street.

When officers arrived on scene, the subject had fled. A man matching the description of the perpetrator was located in the area, and was identified by a victim who had witnessed the thefts.

James R. Poole, age 39 of Leitchfield, was arrested and charged with seven counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking from Auto. He was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center. Poole is currently free on bond.

The Leitchfield Police Department would like to urge everyone to never leave items of value in a vehicle, but if one must, make sure the items are stored out of sight, and the doors are locked. No thefts have been reported to the LPD involving locked vehicles.

The Leitchfield Police Department is currently investigating vandalism that occurred at Dewitt Park on March 15. Sometime during the evening hours, subjects entered the park and caused in excess of $1000.00 in damage by painting gang symbols, references, graphic language and inappropriate images on the building and playground equipment.

Other damage was located in the area, and included defaced yard signs, road signs, and equipment owned by P & L Railroad.

Two subjects have been charged in connection with the vandalism -- Gaylen Ray Logan, age 18 of Leitchfield, and Dalton W. Elliot, age 19 of Clarkson, have been charged with Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.

Both subjects were arrested without incident and transported to the Grayson County Detention Center where they are currently being held.

Criminal Mischief 1st Degree is a Class D Felony.
