More downtown cameras planned after attacks

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher says more security cameras are being added in the city's downtown after multiple attacks were reported over the weekend.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1dxBgcC) reports the first phase of the project will include 24 cameras added in the areas of Waterfront Park and the Big Four Bridge before April 12. The cameras will allow police to monitor activity in the area more closely and anticipate issues in real time.

The announcement on Wednesday came on the heels of violence reported in the area over the weekend. According to police, there were 21 criminal incidents reported.

Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad said earlier in the week that more officers will be on patrol downtown.

Officials have called the violence unusual and unacceptable.
