FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The Kentucky State Parks Foundation has awarded matching grants for trail projects at two parks.
The foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to Nolin Lake State Park for a section of the Brier Creek Mountain Bike Trail that will be used by cyclists. State parks officials say the section will be designed to minimize the amount of pedaling and braking required by cyclists.
Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park at Gilbertsville has received a $1,167 grant to help restore two miles of hiking trails leading from the park's convention center to the marina and riding stables.
State Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker says the grants are going to projects that will offer more recreational opportunities for visitors.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports state parks and various projects in the parks.
