Police Chief Henderson warns of break-ins, phone scam

Leitchfield Police Chief Kevin Henderson said at Monday night’s city council meeting that there has been a rash of vehicle break-ins recently. Henderson said iPhones, iPads, and cash, among other items, have been stolen.

The thefts have occurred mostly at night, but there have been daytime thefts, also. Henderson said that the cars and trucks broken into have all been unlocked.

The thefts have been concentrated in the DeWitt Park area.

Henderson also said that a phone scam is currently being perpetrated in the Grayson County area. He said a male caller claiming to be “Lieutenant Thompson,” tells the intended victim that an arrest warrant has been issued for them for missing federal jury duty.

The scammer then instructs the intended victim to purchase a MoneyGram, and send the caller $500.00.

If anyone receives a call of this nature, immediately contact local law enforcement.
