One extracted from truck following two-vehicle wreck on Byway

The Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments, along with EMS personnel, responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Salt River Road and the William Thomason Byway just after 2:00 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to witnesses, a 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, driven by Jimmy Garrison of Leitchfield, was traveling South on the Byway when an older model Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up truck, attempting to cross the Byway from Salt River Road, pulled out in front of Garrison’s vehicle.

The Honda then “T-boned” the Chevrolet, flipping the truck onto its side, trapping the driver inside the vehicle. Firefighters had to cut the roof off of the truck in order to extract the driver.

The two drivers of the vehicles were the only passengers, and both refused treatment at the scene.

The truck leaked a considerable amount of fuel; firefighters treated the fuel spill before clearing the scene at 2:49.
