Federal fugitive nabbed at Grayson County Detention Center

The following is a press release from the Grayson County Detention Center regarding the arrest of a federal fugitive at the facility:

A federal fugitive who had eluded authorities for several months is behind bars today thanks to quick work by the Grayson County Detention Center Deputies. On Sunday, 52-year-old Pedra Perez-Gumeta was apprehended by deputies at the detention center’s main facility as she attempted to visit federal inmates already in custody.

Prior to the arrest, the detention center had been working with the U.S. Marshals and Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the Eastern District of Kentucky in an attempt to capture Perez-Gumeta. Federal officials had provided a photo and other descriptors to the agency, but the woman who showed up for visitation yesterday had changed her appearance and was using an alias.

After she was positively identified, detention center deputies arrested her on federal warrants for indictments on charges of Illegal Re-entry, Using False Identification As Evidence of Authorized Stay and Employment and Making False Attestation On An Employment Form.

After her arrest, Perez-Gumeta was booked into the detention center as a federal inmate from the Eastern District of Kentucky and housed at the detention center’s Female Facility. She will appear in federal court later this week for arraignment on multiple charges. An immigration detainer was also lodged against her, meaning she will be turned over to ICE for deportation proceedings after resolution of her criminal charges.
