The Grayson County Sheriff and Wax Fire Departments, along with EMS, responded to a single-vehicle accident on Highway 889 and Ranchero Road on Wednesday morning about 2:55.
A red Pontiac G6 being driven by 19-year old Grant Akridge was traveling north on Hwy 889 when Akridge lost control of the car in a curve, left the roadway, missing a utility pole by mere inches before crashing head-on into a tree.
The impact was so severe that the northbound Pontiac was spun into a southerly facing direction.
A witness who drove by the accident, presumably only minutes after impact, spotted Akridge walking on Hwy 889 near the scene, but when first responders arrived Akridge was unable to be located.
Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputy Joey Beasley drove to Akridge’s home in an attempt to find him, but was told by Akridge’s mother that he was not there. It was later determined that Adridge walked to a friend’s house after the accident.
Deputy Beasley told K105 that he anticipates charging Akridge with leaving the scene of an accident.
