New Lady Cougars head basketball coach announced

Grayson County High School Principal Todd Johnston did not have to search far for a replacement after the resignation of Lady Cougars’ head coach Brad Johnson, who returned home to Barren County to serve as the Lady Trojans head coach.

Johnston selected as the new Lady Cougars’ head coach, Daniel Pharris, a 1999 Grayson County High School graduate and who, for the last nine seasons, has been an assistant in the Cougars’ basketball program.

From 2005-2012, Pharris was an assistant coach for the Cougar boys team, which posted a record of 140-70 during that time, including seven straight district championships, to go along with one 3rd Region title. Last season, he was an assistant for the Lady Cougars, who compiled a 16-15 record and recorded a District Championship.

As a player, Pharris earned four varsity letters and is also a member of the school’s 1,000 Point Club. He was named to All-12th District and 3rd Region teams as junior and senior.

The star guard then went on to play two seasons at Campbellsville University under Travis Ford and Keith Adkins.

After his playing career ended, Pharris transferred to WKU where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2005.
He received his Masters in educational administration at University of the Cumberlands in 2012.

This will be his 10th year teaching at GCHS.
