Funeral set for driver hit by Tony Stewart's car

TURIN, N.Y. (AP) — Funeral services for the 20-year-old driver who died after being struck by NASCAR champion Tony Stewart's car are being held at a central New York high school as racing fans debate who's responsible for the accident and his family blames Stewart.

Kevin Ward Jr.'s funeral is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at South Lewis Senior High School in Turin, 55 miles northeast of Syracuse. Ward, a 2012 graduate of the school, lived in nearby Port Leyden.

Ward was sent into the wall when his car was bumped by Stewart's during Saturday night's sprint car race at Canandaigua Speedway in western New York. He got out and walked onto the track, where he was hit by Stewart's car.

No charges have been filed, but Ontario County Sheriff's deputies are still investigating.
