Lana Brown & husband charged in Keaton Runsvold's death

Caneyville residents Lana and Ben Brown have been indicted on second degree manslaughter charges in the January death of 22-month old Keaton Runsvold. Lana Brown is Keaton’s maternal grandmother.

Brown said she found Keaton unresponsive one morning after her daughter, Chasity Lucas, left Keaton with her. At that time of his death, Brown stated that she thought Keaton had ingested some type of household cleaner.

Toxicology reports, though, revealed the toddler had oxycodone, alprazolam and clonazepam in his system when he died. All medications prescribed to Lana Brown.

Additional tests on Keaton showed he had methamphetamine in his system as well. Both Browns also had meth in their system when tested.

"Based on our investigation and the toxicology report, that's how the indictment came back and they've been lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center," Kentucky State Police spokesman Jeff Gregory told WLKY news.

It’s unclear at this point if Keaton found and took the drugs on his own, or if he was fed the deadly dose of medications.

If convicted of second-degree manslaughter, the Browns face up to 10 years in prison. Ben Brown is also charged with being a persistent felony offender.

The Browns are each being held on a $150,000 cash bond. They have their first court hearing on Tuesday morning.
