Monday afternoon at about 4:45, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Department, along with EMS responded to the 900 block of Beaver Dam Road on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

According to witnesses, a Mazda Protege, being driven by Doris Green, of Leitchfield, was turning east from a driveway onto Beaver Dam Road when she pulled in front of an eastbound Ford Fusion, being driven by Cyrus Blanton, of Big Clifty.

The two vehicles collided, with the impact ripping off the Ford’s front driver’s side wheel. The Mazda was propelled into the front yard of a residence.

Green was given aid immediately after the accident by Grayson County Clerk Sherry Weedman, who was traveling only a few cars behind the collision. An unidentified nurse also stopped at the scene and rendered aid.

Weedman said Green, who knows each other through Green’s work as a long-time precinct worker, was dazed and initially unresponsive. Weedman comforted Green and applied pressure to her neck wounds, as the elderly victim suffered cuts and abrasions as a result of the accident.

Green, who became alert at the scene, and who also complained of chest pain, was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by EMS.

Neither Blanton nor his passengers were injured in the collision.

LPD Sgt. Robert Jackson worked the scene with assistance from Detective Kevin Smith.
