The future of the Grayson County cross country program seems bright after the results of last Saturday’s Ryan Snellen-Bruins Cross Country Campus Ramble, held on the campus of Central Hardin High School.

Both the elementary school and middle school boys teams earned first-place trophies for their efforts, while the middle school girls earned a fourth-place finish.

None of the top varsity runners participated in this race. With the regionals set for next week in Greensburg, head coach Anthony Miller wanted to give them a week’s rest so they will be in top form.

That put the spotlight on the younger runners and they came through in outstanding fashion. The middle school boys put three runners in the top 10. Seventh-grader Peyton Nash finished second overall with a time of 12:38.50 for the 3200-meter race. Seventh-grader Jackson Crume finished seventh in 13:20.14, and seventh-grader Will Meredith was eighth in 13:27.18.

Also earning points for the Cougars were eighth-grader Ethan Dean, 12th overall in 13:41.93, and seventh-grader Alex Hazelwood, 17th overall in 13:57.86.

The elementary boys put four runners in the top 10 of their 1600-meter race, led by Houston Brooks, who finished second in 6:09.41. Jaron Nugent was fourth in 6:27.20, Sawyer Guffey was fifth in 6:30.80, and Landon Lowrey was seventh in 6:45.41. Fourth-grader Haylon Dean was the final points-earner for Grayson County, finishing 25th overall in 7:16.38.

The middle school girls were fourth with 120 points, behind Southern Indiana Catholic’s near perfect 16 points. Meade County took second with 78 points, and Taylor County was third, also with 78 points.

Earning points for the Lady Cougars were Chloe Darst, ninth in 14:30.33, Audrey Helm, 19th in 15:55.82, Elizabeth Lucas, 26th in 16:29.80, Kelsey Sneed, 31st in 16:57.68, and Kaylee Jessie, 35th in 17:31.62.

The elementary school girls finished fifth overall with 117 points behind Southern Indiana Catholic (46), Larue County (55), Taylor County (72), and Barren County (100). Fifth-grader Alexis Henderson ran an excellent race for the young Lady Cougars, finishing second overall with a time of 6:41 89.

Also earning points for Grayson County were Samantha Woosley, 27th in 8:00.20, Brinley Cannon, 28th in 8:03.35, Jayden Nugent, 34th in 8:16.48, and Reagan Nash, 48th in 8:51.06.
