My husband and I have been together for about seven years (dating for 5 and married for almost 2). Both of our birthdays are in December, next is Christmas, and then our dating anniversary was in March, so there was a lot of gift buying in a short amount of time, which can be exhausting. So for our first Valentine’s Day together, we made each other our gifts and we enjoyed it so much that 7 years later the tradition has stuck. We take ideas from popular craft sites and spin them to make them our own. It is so much fun and knowing that each of us spent so much time and creativity working on our gifts makes the entire day so special and exciting. So, I used that as my motivation for this week’s blog by putting together a list of DIY Valentine’s gifts that you can make for that someone special in your life. Some of the images used below are actual examples of things my husband and I have made for each other over the years. Enjoy!

  • Photo Collage- A fun way to group all your favorite memories together. My husband loves Batman, so I took photos of us and arranged them in outline of the Bat-Signal to make it even more personal. It was awesome and he loved it!

  • 100 Reasons Why I Love You Jar- Everyone needs to be reminded every now and then of how special we are. Take this opportunity to tell the one you love, just how much you love them.

  • Homemade Card- Take the time to sit down, really write how you feel, and put some creativity into the card you give your Valentine. It will mean so much more.

  • Chocolate Covered Strawberries- Mmm… a delicious treat to share! If your S.O. likes to bake, maybe pull them into the kitchen and work together!

  • Memory Book- Our first Valentine’s Day together, I made a memory book for my husband with a photo to represent each month that we had been together. As we sat and looked through it, we got to relive the moments and what they meant to us. Leave empty pages in the back, so you can continue to fill it up as you make more amazing memories.

  • Candy Bouquet- Maybe your sweetie has a sweet tooth. Buy their fave candy bars and morsels and construct them into a glorious candy bouquet!

  • Write a Song or Poem-  One Valentine’s Day, my husband gave me a flash drive (like what you see below) and a card that simply read, “Listen to me.” He had found one of my favorite songs and performed it for me, like played the guitar and sang. It was absolutely amazing and something I still treasure to this day. In a world that lacks romantic gestures, step out and show your Valentine how much you really care.

  • Scavenger Hunt- At the risk of ruining the surprise, I have planned a scavenger hunt for my husband as part of his gift this year. Shh, don’t tell! All you have to do is, write out fun and quirky clues that will lead your Valentine to their gift. It will be a great memory to have for you both.

  • Make Their Favorite Dish- Valentine’s Day is all about showing your love for one another, so step into the kitchen and whip together a meal that you know they will appreciate! Cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts, so one year my hubby (then, boyfriend) made me one from scratch.

  • Basket of Their Favorite Things- Just gather together whatever you know will make your significant other the happiest, whether is be snacks or games or books or socks. You know them best, so show them how well you know what they like by presenting them with a basket of all their favorites!

  • Photo Phone Case- This is such a cute idea to give as a gift. It shows that you were thinking of them and that you want them thinking of you!

  • Handcrafted Bouquet- Not all bouquets have to be ordered. Visit your local floral shop or grocery store and pick out individual flowers that you know your Valentine will like. Knowing that you took the time to pick out and assemble the bouquet will make your one-and-only so happy.

  • Personalized Sneakers- Maybe you aren’t into traditional Valentine’s gifts and are looking for something a little more flashy to give your bf or gf. Look into personalizing some sneakers for them. It is still applying your personal creative touch, but in a break-the-mold kind of way.

  • A Thoughtful Gesture- February 14th is just about sharing and showing love, so just simply doing something nice for one another encompasses the whole meaning of the day. Watch a movie that he has been dying to watch or try that new seafood place that she has been asking about. Just show one another that you are happy to be loved by each other and appreciate the other 364 days that you spend together.
