A Trigg County mother has been jailed after her two children perished in a house fire.

Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:00, Kentucky State Police responded to the scene of the fire on Jefferson Street, in Cadiz, after firefighters discovered the lifeless bodies of two small children in the home after the blaze was extinguished, according to state police. The ages of the children have not been released.

An investigation by troopers determined the children’s mother, 30-year-old Keyona Bingham, left her kids home alone. While she was away from the residence, the fire began.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, a class D felony, and lodged in the Christian County Jail.

It’s unclear how or where in the residence the fire started.
