On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 777 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have been confirmed in Kentucky since Thursday afternoon.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 60,128.

Officials said 97 of the new cases are children 18 and younger, with 14 five-years-old and younger.

Beshear reported eight new deaths Friday, raising the total to 1,101 (1.8 percent fatality rate) Kentuckians lost to the virus.

The deaths reported Friday include an 85-year-old man from Bell County; a 96-year-old man from Christian County; a 96-year-old man from Fayette County; a 90-year-old woman from Greenup County; a 53-year-old man from Hopkins County; a 73-year-old woman from Laurel County; a 78-year-old woman from Pulaski County; and a 91-year-old woman from Scott County.

“This is tough news today,” the governor said. “It only took 10 days for us to go from 1,000 deaths to over 1,100. This is why we’re working so hard to keep our case numbers down.”

The commonwealth’s positivity rate dropped for the third consecutive day to 3.60 percent, down from 3.82 percent on Thursday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5,002 (8.3 percent) patients have been hospitalized, with 500 people currently in a hospital. To date, 1,478 (2.5 percent) victims have received treatment in an ICU, with 144 patients currently in intensive care.

At least 11,168 (18.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 1,115,105 coronavirus tests have been performed in Kentucky.
