Gov. Andy Beshear reported a combined 1,441 cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were confirmed in Kentucky on Saturday (1,002) and Sunday (439).

Those cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 61,542.

Included in the weekend coronavirus numbers are 231 children 18 and younger, with 41 of those victims five-years-old and younger.

“Remember, high number of cases lead to a higher number of deaths several weeks down the line,” Beshear said. “Now that our kids are going to be going back to school in many places in some form or fashion, now that we have more sports, let’s make sure that we cut our contacts, wear our masks and socially distance. Let’s do better; everyone around us is depending on it.”

Officials reported 10 deaths on Saturday (seven) and Sunday (three), raising the commonwealth’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,111 (1.8 percent fatality rate). The fatalities ranged in age from 66 to 92.

As of Saturday, the rolling seven-day positivity rate of 3.82 percent was up slightly from Friday’s 3.60 percent.

Also as of Saturday, at least 11,237 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 1,118,855 coronavirus tests have been administered in the state.

No hospitalization numbers were released over the weekend.
