Federal grand jury indicts former Letcher Co. teacher on child rape, sodomy charges

A former Letcher County teacher is facing federal charges after being indicted on child rape charges.

Charles E. Hall Jr., 46, of Jackson, was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly raping and sodomizing a teenage girl in 2018.

Hall was previously indicted on state charges, including third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. He was additionally charged with trying to convince his 14-year-old victim not to testify against him.

The suspect is accused of committing the acts between April and November of 2018. He faces between 15 and 30 years in prison on the federal charges if convicted.

Hall was a teacher at Letcher County Alternative School and a former assistant football coach at Letcher County Central High School. He also taught at Letcher Middle School.
