1,268 new COVID cases in KY fewest in four weeks, positivity rate drops below 10 percent

On Monday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 1,268 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours, the fewest number of new cases in about four weeks.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 347,836 (about one case per 12.6 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported 39 new deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 3,460 (one percent fatality rate), and giving the state 399 COVID-19 deaths over the last 10 days.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped below 10 percent for the first time since December 31, as the metric checked in at 9.93 percent, down from Sunday’s 10.24 percent.

Hospitalizations fell by one patient to 1,539, while intensive care admissions decreased by 21 patients to 374. Victims on ventilators also dropped from 218 people to 203.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 15,919 (4.6 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,442 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 41,760 (12 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 3.9 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
