The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

GCHD Director Josh Embry on Monday reported 17 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since Friday, giving the county only 59 new cases of the virus since February 9, about 4.5 per day, down from the over 14 per day the county averaged between January 18 and February 8.

Of course, the number of new cases is likely impacted by the severe winter weather all of Kentucky has experienced over the last couple of weeks.

The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 1,924 (about one case per 14.0 Grayson Co. residents).

Embry said there are 50 active coronavirus cases in the county, three fewer than Friday.

No new deaths were announced, leaving the county’s COVID-19 death toll at 49.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,825 (94.9 percent) Grayson Co. residents have recovered from the virus.

As of Monday, Grayson Co.’s rate of occurrence had dropped to 19.5 new cases per day per 100,000 residents, leaving the county in the “orange,” indicating an accelerated spread of the virus within the community, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health. This after the county was deemed a coronavirus “red zone” for the previous three months, signaling a “critical” spread of the virus.
