Fewer than 1,200 new COVID cases in KY, 30 deaths. Over 650,000 received at least one vaccination.

On Friday, Gov. Andy Beshear reported 1,180 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 402,926 (about one case per 10.9 Kentucky residents).

At least 655,275 Kentuckians have received at minimum their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, officials said.

Health officials reported 30 COVID-related deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 4,600 (1.2 percent fatality rate), and giving Kentucky 126 deaths over the last three days.

The rolling seven-day positivity rate dropped from Thursday’s 5.67 percent to 5.52 percent on Friday.

“We’re still not out of the woods with this horrible virus, but every week, we’re taking another step forward in our fight against it,” Beshear said.

Hospitalizations decreased by 25 patients to 818, while intensive care admissions fell by two to 220. Victims on ventilators dropped by 17 people to 105.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 18,981 (4.7 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 3,950 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 47,391 (11.8 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus, and 4.5 million COVID-19 tests have been administered in the state.
