Two men have been arrested in Edmonson County on theft and drug charges after being found with a stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office received a call for assistance from Smith’s Grove Police Chief Jason Franks, who  executed a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Chalybeate Road on a suspected stolen vehicle.

Upon their arrival, Edmonson County deputies identified the suspects as 28-year-old Harley Jessie, of Bowling Green, and 25-year-old Tyler Stith, of Smiths Grove.

Edmonson County Sheriff Shane Doyle said the vehicle’s VIN plate on the dash had been removed, but authorities confirmed the vehicle been stolen from Southern Recycling. Doyle added that the same vehicle was suspected in two trailer thefts in Edmonson County.

One trailer, belonging to Townsend Tree Service, had already been recovered by the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office. The second stolen trailer was later recovered in Barren County. The VIN plates on that trailer had also been removed.

During a search of the suspects’ stolen vehicle, deputies located methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Jessie and Stith were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), receiving stolen property (more than $10,000), theft by unlawful taking, obscuring the identity of a machine ($10,000 or more), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Stith was found to have a bench warrant out of Hart County for a probation violation in connection to theft by unlawful taking (firearm) charges.

The suspects were lodged in the Hart County Jail.
