680 new COVID cases in KY, 10 deaths. Positivity rate dropping.

Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday reported 680 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky over the previous 24 hours.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 450,541 (about one case per 9.8 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported 10 coronavirus deaths (includes one audit death), raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,630 (1.5 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate fell from Tuesday’s 3.15 percent to 3.08 percent on Wednesday.

Hospitalizations increased by 10 patients to 425 over the weekend, while the number of people in intensive care dropped by four at 105. Victims on ventilators decreased by one to 50.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 22,304 (five percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,556 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 52,023 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said 1.89 million Kentuckians have received at least their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, about 53 percent of Kentucky adults and 42 percent of the state’s population.
