Former eastern Ky. deputy, current university police officer indicted for first-degree rape

A central Kentucky law enforcement officer who is a former eastern Kentucky deputy has been indicted on a first-degree rape charge.

On Wednesday, Kentucky State Police arrested 31-year-old Dustin T. Watkins, of Whitley City, after a McCreary County Grand Jury returned the indictment.

Watkins was working as an officer with the Transylvania University Police Department in Lexington upon his arrest.

The alleged crime occurred in 2020 while Watkins was a deputy with the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office.

Watkins was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Kentucky State Police said the Transylvania University Police Department and the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office were cooperative throughout the investigation.
