A Grayson County man with multiple warrants led a deputy on a foot chase on Summit Road.

Monday night at approximately 9:40, Grayson County Deputy Caleb Owens was dispatched to the 2000 block of Summit Road on the report of a suspicious person wearing dark clothing and carrying an unknown white object.

Upon arriving at the scene, the suspect, 34-year-old Mark E. Smith, of Big Clifty, fled from Owens on foot, as Smith ignored commands from Owens to stop. The chase lasted approximately 1,000 yards, according to police, as Smith fled into a wooded area, down an embankment and into a field. Owens, though, ran Smith down and placed him under arrest.

Smith was served with three warrants and was additionally charged with fleeing or evading police (on foot) and alcohol intoxication in a public place. He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
