A Barren County man has been charged in the overdose death of a Cave City woman.

K105 reported in early April that the Glasgow Police Department arrested 33-year-old Tavaris M. Casher, of Glasgow, following the execution of a search warrant at the suspect’s home where police seized fentanyl, Xanax, marijuana and two handguns, with one of the firearms stolen, according to Glasgow police.

Casher at that time was charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, drug unspecified), receiving stolen property (firearm), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and trafficking in marijuana.

After further investigation, the Barren River Drug Task Force recently filed a second-degree manslaughter charge against Casher stemming from the overdose death of a Cave City woman on April 4. The new charge is a class C felony, punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

The task force said its extended investigation showed that Casher sold or otherwise provided the woman with fentanyl pills that caused her death.

Casher is lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on three $50,000 cash bonds.
