Two male juveniles have been severely injured in a golf cart accident in Falls of Rough.

Saturday morning at approximately 10:50, the Falls of Rough Fire Department, Grayson County Deputy Erik Franklin and EMS were dispatched to the accident in the 300 block of Paradise Acres Road.

Falls of Rough firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and found two juveniles, ages 17 and 13, suffering from severe injuries. The 17-year-old, who was driving the golf cart on the roadway, suffered a compound fracture of the ankle along with a severe mid-leg injury and head injury.

He was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center where he was then airlifted to a Louisville hospital.

The 13-year-old suffered a compound fracture of his lower leg/ankle. Medical personnel wanted him to also be airlifted but no other medical helicopters would fly due to weather. He was then transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center by EMS. After the medical helicopters declined to fly, he was going to be transported to a Louisville hospital via EMS but it’s unclear if that transfer occurred, or if he was possibly taken to Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

According to Falls of Rough Fire Chief David Mercer, the accident happened when the golf cart was traveling down a hill and it began to fishtail, tossing the juveniles off the vehicle.

Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said the parents/guardians of the juveniles could be charged with first- or second-degree criminal abuse, or first-degree wanton endangerment, all felonies, for allowing juveniles to operate a golf cart on a public roadway.
