Grayson County’s Owen Brown and the doubles team of Griffin Powell/Chase Richardson both had strong performances in United States Tennis Association (USTA) events earlier this month.

These events were not directly affiliated with the high school, but Brown and Powell are rising seniors at the high school while Richardson graduated earlier this summer.

Brown competed in the Georgia Junior Open held at Berry College in the Peach State. The event was filled with 32 players from all across the southeast. The Cougar star had straight-set victories in the round of 32 and round of 16 before falling to the tournament’s #4 seed in the quarterfinals.

Powell and Richardson were a part of the Elizabethtown Open at Freeman Park. The pair finished as the tournament runner-up, losing to a duo from Bowling Green/Elizabethtown.

The three Cougar stars all made the KHSAA state tournament with Brown bowing out in the state round of 16 and Powell/Richardson losing in the final 32.

The 2023 Grayson County tennis season is set to begin in March.
