For nine years, former Grayson County runner Bret Crawford held the cross country course record at the Hardin County Fairgrounds. On Saturday, his mark finally fell by Cougar senior runner Peyton Nash.

Nash set a personal-best time of 16:00.49 to win the highly competitive Central Hardin Fairgrounds Frenzy by over eight seconds.

That time beat Crawford’s previous record by nearly 12 seconds.

It was the second consecutive strong race for the senior as he came in second last Saturday in the Owensboro Invitational.

Sophomore Houston Brooks finished just behind Nash in sixth place while Jackson Crume and Shane Hall each had top-25 finishes.

The combination of finishes for Grayson County gave them second place overall in the meet that had teams from all across the area.

The Lady Cougar runners also competed with an eighth-place overall finish. They were led by sophomore Gracie Portman who came in 15th and Chloee Darst in 37th.

Both teams will return to the course next weekend at Tom Sawyer State Park.
