Police looking for witnesses of semi hitting, killing Oldham Co. teen on I-71, then failing to stop

Police are asking the public for information following a semi truck striking and killing a teenager Friday night in Oldham County.

Ayden F. Altman, 17, of La Grange, was killed after being struck by a semi truck on I-71 south near the 23-mile marker.

Oldham County Police, according to WAVE3.com, responded to the wreck Friday night at approximately 11:45 and found that there had been a single-vehicle crash where Altman’s vehicle left the interstate and struck an embankment. The vehicle came to rest in the left lane of southbound 1-71.

Altman and his passenger were not hurt, with both exiting the vehicle. They were standing in the median when a tractor-trailer swerved off the roadway to avoid the crashed vehicle, striking and killing Altman.

The truck then continued on.

Authorities have been unable to locate the semi involved in the crash.

Anyone traveling on I-71 in Oldham County at the time crash and has information concerning the semi truck or its driver is asked to contact the Oldham County Police Department at 502-222-1300.
