For the second time in less than a week, youth offenders being held at the Warren Juvenile Detention Center attacked a staff member.

Saturday night at approximately 6:30, three juveniles attacked a staff member and then barricaded themselves in an office using a file cabinet to block a door, according to the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).

Officials on scene summoned Kentucky State Police and the Warren County Regional Jail’s Critical Emergency Response to the facility, as the situation was soon brought to a resolution without the use of force.

According to the DJJ, the juveniles who assaulted the staff member are 16-years-old and are being held on murder, drug trafficking and first-degree robbery charges.

The juveniles involved in Saturday night’s incident are not the same youths involved in a January 23 assault of multiple staff members at the detention center.

In that incident, three juveniles kicked and punched staff during an “orchestrated” attack.

One worker underwent “medical evaluation” for non-life-threatening injuries, while the youths did not sustain injuries, the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said in a news release. The attack was quelled by juvenile justice personnel without outside police intervention.

The juveniles involved in the January 23 incident were being held for murder, and first-degree robbery.

The facility is among three high-security detention centers statewide that house male juveniles 14-years-old or older who have been charged with a violent or serious offense.

With two violent incidents in less than a week, the Warren County facility has been placed in controlled confinement, which limits movements within the detention center.
