A Caneyville man being served with indictment warrants for drug trafficking was found with a “large rock of methamphetamine,” cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

Sunday evening at approximately 9:00, Grayson County Deputies Wally Ritter and Justin Cockerel arrived at a residence on Layman Road after receiving information that a wanted man, 47-year-old Matthew S. Willis, was at the home.

The homeowners gave consent for deputies to search the residence where police located Willis in a “rear bedroom … under a blanket,” according to the arrest citation.

While searching the room where Willis was found, deputies located a bag containing a methamphetamine pipe and “bag of suspected methamphetamine.” Deputies then obtained a search warrant for the property.

Assisted by Deputy Caleb Owens, Ritter and Cockerel found in Willis’ room a “bag with a large rock of methamphetamine … digital scales, other bags with residue inside them, and a plastic tube with rolled up, multiple bags of marijuana, and cash …,” the citation states.

Willis was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also served with indictment warrants charging him with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in marijuana, and possession of marijuana. The indictment counts are enhanced by the presence of a firearm.

The indictments stem from an incident on New Year’s Eve 2022, according to the citation.

Willis was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
