An eastern Kentucky man has been jailed after tossing a woman out of a vehicle moving between 35 and 40 miles per hour.

According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Saturday night to a report “of a female being thrown from a moving vehicle” on Hwy 225 near Artemus, about four miles south of Barbourville.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found a female lying in the road. The woman told police that her boyfriend, 34-year-old Brandon M. Murphy, of Barbourville, “had pushed her out of the vehicle while they were traveling 35 to 40 mph,” the sheriff’s office said.

The victim suffered a serious head injury along with numerous abrasions (road rash) and cuts all over her body, according to police. She was transported to Barbourville Appalachian Regional Hospital before being transferred to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Deputies arrested Murphy at his residence and charged him with first-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, menacing, and resisting arrest.

He was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
