Grayson County High School has named Mike McClintic as the next head coach of the Lady Cougar basketball team.

McClintic will be the 13th all-time coach for the program.

“Coach Mac,” as his players call him, has deep roots in coaching high school basketball. From 1988-2000, he was coach at Cannelton in Indiana before having stints coaching the Edmonson County girls and boys.

In order to spend more time with his family, he stepped down as the Edmonson County boys coach in 2021. He would return to the sidelines as an assistant under current Cougar boys coach Travis Johnston later that year.

McClintic is also the assistant athletic director at Grayson County.

He will replace Todd Johnston, who resigned last month after two seasons. He will be the fourth head coach since 2017 and the fifth if you count Travis Johnston, who only coached through the offseason in 2017 before moving to the Cougar boys job.

McClintic inherits a Lady Cougar program that will return 78% of its scoring from a year ago. The team will only have one senior with multiple middle schoolers playing big minutes down the stretch of last year’s team.

He will get his first look at the team during summer basketball which typically begins in June.
