Cougars tested by elite competition at KABC Summer Shootout

The Grayson County boys basketball team competed in the KABC Summer Shootout this past weekend in Lexington.

The competition featured well over 100 schools from multiple states.

This annual event is one of the biggest high school basketball recruiting weekends of the year. At just games involving Grayson County, there were representatives from WKU, NKU, Morehead State, Virginia, Xavier, Nebraska, Thomas More, Centre, Brescia, and others.

Against the strong field, the Cougars split their two games with a win over Winton Woods (OH) and McCracken County, while dropping games against Moeller (OH) and Lakota East (OH).

Grayson County 52 Winton Woods (OH) 48

  • The Cougars came back from a double-digit first-half deficit to win 52-48.
  • Spencer Langdon had 16 points and four rebounds. Following the game, he received a college offer from Kentucky Christian.
  • Jack Logsdon filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
  • Caden Gaither had 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Those two steals came in the closing seconds to cap off a 9-0 run to end the game.

Moeller (OH) 68 Grayson County 55

  • Jack Logsdon had his best game of the summer with 29 points and six rebounds. He was 7/11 from three-point range, including multiple that were from the volleyball line.
  • The rest of the team struggled from the field, shooting below 40%.
  • The Cougars finished the game with only 16 rebounds as the Crusaders controlled the boards.

Lakota East (OH) 62 Grayson County 42

  • With a 9:00 a.m. CT start, the Cougars looked sluggish early and made just one of their first eight shots.
  • Caden Gaither was the leading scorer with 14 points and three rebounds.
  • Spencer Langdon nearly had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.
  • As a team, the Cougars went 3/13 from three point range.

Grayson County 48 McCracken County 47

  • Jack Logsdon had a go-ahead shot with 2.8 seconds left to help the Cougars pick up the win.
  • Grayson County used a 17-2 run spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second half to turn a 10-point deficit into a five-point lead.
  • Caden Gaither shined offensively with 15 points and five rebounds.
  • Braden Wright had his best game of the weekend with nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Spencer Langdon also had seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • The three point shot struggled again in this game by going only 5/17 from long range.

The Cougars will have two more days of summer ball. On Wednesday, they will play at St. Xavier against the Tigers and North Oldham. On Friday, they will play in a tournament at North Hardin.
