Two Grayson County Middle School students were transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center on Tuesday morning.
In the early part of the school day on Tuesday, the GCMS School Resource Officer with the Leitchfield Police Department … became involved in an investigation when staff received information of at least two students taking an unknown number of pills in the bleachers.”
The two students were identified and evaluated by school medical staff and ultimately transported to the hospital via EMS.
The pills were located by staff members and identified as a form of “baby aspirin,” LPD said.
“Leitchfield Police have conferred with the local prosecutor and determined that this will not meet criteria for criminal action,” LPD said. “However, the students’ safety and medical attention were and remain the top priority for law enforcement and school staff members.
“We hope for a quick recovery and hope that parents will take the time to warn their children of the dangers of experimenting with any kind of substance whether it be an illegal substance or not.”
Leitchfield police added that it was a “scary and traumatic morning” for the impacted students, and that “this is an act of children experimenting with something that they have no idea the physical consequences of their actions.”
