The Clarkson Police Department has a new chief.

Blake Elmore was sworn in as the new Clarkson police chief on Thursday morning by Mayor Bonnie Henderson at Clarkson City Hall.

Elmore replaces Grayson County Sheriff-elect Buck Meredith.

“We congratulate Blake Elmore on his appointment as Police Chief and wish him well in his new position. Thank you for your service to our community,” the city said in a social media post.

Elmore was only 24 when Meredith hired him as a Clarkson officer in March 2019. His first day on the job was April 1, 2019.

He became the first ever Clarkson officer to graduate from the Department of Criminal Justice Training academy in December 2019.

Elmore was honored by carrying the guidon for his class at the graduation ceremony. He additionally received his graduating class’ physical fitness award.

Elmore, a 2013 Grayson County High School graduate, began his law enforcement career at the Grayson County Detention Center in late November 2017. He worked at the GCDC until early October 2018 when he joined the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office as a court security officer.

Elmore additionally served with the Kentucky National Guard for six years and worked at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington as a member of the airport’s security team.

Meredith will remain an officer with the Clarkson Police Department until he is sworn in as sheriff in January 2027.
