Several GCHS band members garner top ratings at state competition

Grayson County High School band members hit all the right notes to earn top distinguished ratings in a variety of events during the Kentucky Music Educators (KEMA) Solo and Ensemble event last weekend at the University of Louisville.

The following student-musicians earned the highest rating possible in their respective categories:

  • Solos — Devin Coon, Kenzie Kincheloe, Nick Droz, Kaylie Westphal, Jackson Parker, Alexis Coon, Brooke Parkhill, Darrenger Huff, Jacob Swift, Princess Reed, Natasha Ramsey, and Charlie Edens.
  • Woodwind — Sophia McLeod, Brooke Parkhill, Natasha Ramsey, Misty Ward, Kenzie Kincheloe, Morgan Lindsey, Alexis Coon, Luke Hornback, Kris King, Kyle Milliner.
  • Brass — Jacob Swift, Jackson Parker, Dustin Clark, Jonah Nolan, Darrenger Huff, AJ Napper, Misty Ward, Kaylie Westphal, Charlie Edens, Ethan Hornback, Riley Penny, Noah Yates, JD Guest, Gavin Decker.

Several GCHS student-musicians were also selected to a chair in the state KMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival to be held at the University of Louisville. To be eligible for state, the musicians had to receive a distinguished rating on their solo or ensemble performance at the district level.
