At Thursday night’s Grayson County School Board meeting, it was announced that Lawler Elementary principal Brad Vincent is stepping down and is being replaced by Alicia Brooks, a former assistant principal in Hardin County, who recently moved to the Clarkson area.

According to school officials, Vincent desired to go back into the classroom.

(Neither Vincent nor Brooks were present at the meeting. K105 will have more on the leadership change at Lawler in the coming days.)

During the business portion of the meeting, board members approved a DECA trip and two fundraising events.

The GCHS DECA members will travel to the Capital Plaza Tower in Frankfort for a Fall Leadership Workshop. The trip will take place in late September. The number of students taking the trip has yet to be determined.

Clarkson Elementary School’s Fall Festival and school picture fundraisers were approved, while Wilkey Elementary will sell Candleberry Candles, in addition to hosting a Spring Fling.

The profits from Clarkson’s fundraisers will benefit the general fund and classroom accounts, with the profits from the Wilkey fundraising events being used to fund technology needs, purchase classroom materials and provide learning experiences for the students via field trips.

The board also approved the creation of a special needs aide at Clarkson. The position will work three days per week.
