On Tuesday morning, a Kentucky State Police Trooper was critically injured after he crashed his patrol car on I-75 in Laurel County.

Trooper Houston Lewis called KSP Post 11 at about 9:00 Tuesday morning to report he had been involved in a single-vehicle collision around the 41-mile marker of I-75 near London, according to police. Police believe Lewis crashed a couple of hours earlier, but had lost consciousness and was unable to call for help.

Authorities said Troopers found Lewis trapped inside his patrol car 150 feet over an embankment in a wooded area.

Lewis was removed from his vehicle by a rescue squad and flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.
