Wednesday night at midnight, the Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments responded to 8398 Brandenburg Road on the report of a structure fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a two-story wood frame home nearly fully engulfed. Flames were coming from all the home’s upstairs windows, and fire raged on a large deck on the back of the home.

It took firefighters only about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control, but worked for about an hour to put out several hot spots, particularly on the home’s second floor. The home was a total loss.

Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said the fire began on the second floor, on the right side of the house, and was “suspicious” in nature. Duvall declined to speak on the record about the specifics of why he feels the fire is suspicious, so as not to compromise the investigation into the cause of the fire.

The home’s residents were not in the structure when the fire began.

The McDaniels Fire Department provided traffic control and a tanker truck. There were no injuries reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 2:00.
