Monday morning at approximately 2:35, the Leitchfield Police Department was dispatched to Five Star Food Mart, on South Main Street, on the report of a man asleep in a truck in the parking lot for “two to three hours.”

After waking the man, Officer DJ Newton observed that the subject, 44-year-old Dennis Dailey, of Clarkson, “had glassy, watery eyes, slurred speech and was disoriented.” Newton asked Dailey how long he had been at Five Star, with Dailey answering “20 minutes,” according to the arrest citation.

Newton then asked Dailey if there were any weapons in the vehicle, with Dailey responding that there was not. Newton was then informed by Grayson County Central Dispatch that Dailey holds a conceal-carry permit. When asked again by Newton if there were any weapons in the truck, Dailey said that yes, there was a firearm in a bag in the passenger seat of the truck.

Newton then asked for and received permission to search the truck. The arrest citation says that while frisking Dailey for weapons, Newton located two baggies of methamphetamine, two baggies of marijuana, a baggie containing several pills, a snorting straw (with meth residue), and glass pipe and scales.

Newton then searched the bag containing the firearm and found a “large bag of marijuana,” and a Taurus 9 mm pistol. In the center console of the truck, Newton found suspected moonshine.

In the arrest citation, Newton says that Dailey said the marijuana was for his “personal use” and that he “sold” the methamphetamine because he didn’t have a job.

Dailey was arrested and charged with trafficking in and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, public intoxication (excludes alcohol) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $25,000 bond.

Officer Tim Moutardier assisted Newton at the scene.
