At Friday’s special called Grayson County Fiscal Court meeting, Magistrates approved the second and final reading of an amended voluntary fire and rescue dues ordinance.

The original ordinance was amended to show that the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office will now receive no more than three percent of the membership fees the office collects (previously, the SO received one percent), and that property owners wishing to opt out of paying the $40 yearly membership fees may mail in the opt out form “with the tax payment after receipt of said opt out form from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.”

Before passage of the amended ordinance, property owners wishing to opt out of paying fire and rescue membership dues had to complete the opt out process at the sheriff’s office. If opting out, and a property owner experiences a structure fire, the local fire department may levy a fee of up to $1,000 for responding too and fighting the fire.

The section of the ordinance pertaining to opting out of paying fire and rescue dues says, “All property owners who opt out of the membership fees are specifically put on notice, pursuant to KRS 75.450; should a fire or other non-medical incident occur on his/her property, the property owner could face charges from the (fire) district of a minimum of $500 or $1,000, depending on the type of facility.”

Shain Road closed, surplus property placed on govdeals.com

After two viewers studied a proposal by Andrew Mostovych, of Silver Springs, Maryland, to close Shain Road, Magistrates voted to end county maintenance of the roadway.

Mostovych owns property on Shain Road.

Magistrates also agreed to deem several county-owned vehicles as surplus property and place them on govdeals.com.

Among the vehicles that will be sold are a 2002 Ford F150, a 2001 Jeep and a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 truck, among other vehicles.

Magistrates, Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson and County Attorney Clay Ratley entered into an executive session to discuss potential litigation. Also included in the executive session were Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley and County Road Supervisor Steve Mahurin.

Ratley said upon emerging from the private session that no action had been taken.
